You did good, and yes trust your instincts, always . I find it better to have your screen open in so you can put a locking safety bar across the door or if they made a main door that has a drop down window with a screen, much safer. Happy trails

I followed all of your steps to add the OGO toilet and I never used the black tank but previous owners did of course and I’m noticing the hotter it gets outside I can smell the black tank. I am going to go out on a limb and say that guy knew the area and was using the other camping ground as a ruse. Instincts should always be followed. You did the right thing.

We were looking for RV's when we knew we were getting a little inheritance. We were shocked by the poor quality of the new RV's. Every one of them had something broken on the show models! Airstream was the only one that did not have any damage but the showroom was inside - out of the weather. Now looking at Wayfarer vans. Much less expensive and so much better.

They way you initially described his demeanor sent me on high alert--and I wasn't even there! Your instincts saved you! I think your ideas for safeguarding in the future are great. I was worried if you had a lock on your screen door. It sucks you can't even be in an open and crowded space without having to still worry about keeping things locked. It sounds like that place just kind of went down hill, but I was glad to hear you have a couple people who always know where you're at and that you had certain things in place to protect yourself in that moment! I'm camped outside RMNP at this moment. Been traveling with my ALiner. Been to rv parks and boondocking (as much as i can)I've been so envious of camper vans. That's definitely gonna be my next move!

I have not lived in Arizona since March of 2025. One of my favorite places on earth is the Superstition Wilderness. I have been many times to Peralta Trailhead. I never camped there as I lived at the Desert Sands golfing community in Mesa. So close my ex and I could drive. Barclay Canyon and Fremont Saddle are two great hikes. I know Apache Junction well. You are right. That it. You made a correct judgement. Do not second guess a call you made that you were not sure about. You are deep in Hells Angels territory and AJ is a crack head paradise. Despite them there is so much beauty and the parks and people that are great are there. Common sense will make this place a great place to be. I hope you go up to the Mogollon Rim and camp in cooler places this summer. You just need to take lots of water and a solar shower bag to stay days up there off grid. It's cooler at 7000 ft than the valley. And the wildflowers are surreal. No fires during the summer. But still it's so nice. Find a spot near a lake. You will find heaven. It's that close

For your screen door can you install brackets on the inside on which you could put metal bars crossways "X" style while you're on the inside. You'd still have the open fresh air but make it very very difficult for someone to push their way in.

I don’t have kindle

I use a mortar pan. I originally bought it for a sled for my backpack. I still use it for this purpose. Now I use the pan. It's big enough to sand in or sit. I can soak my feet to keep my feet healthy and. Bath in or shower in. Multi functional and it's heavy duty plastic. It's light and I can store things in it too. Slide it under my bed or throw it on top somewhere.

Can they tow a car on a trailer?

I'm curious about cooking. How do you manage that in the campervan?

Another tip: eat from a Tupperware bowl and just put it back in the refrigerator with your next meal inside it, so you don’t have to wash the dish at all.

Our instinct is our first line of defense. When I was about 10yrs old, I unknowingly became an interest to either a rapist, a murderer or both. I was walking home from soccer practice, and had to pass by a parked van. I had noticed it earlier, and something about it didn't feel right. I think it was the dark tinted windows, which weren't common back in the early '70's. I paid close attention when I walked past it, and immediately heard the van door open. I looked back briefly, and all I saw was a man's boot touch the ground. Right away, a plan formed in my head and I didn't hesitate to follow this plan. I ran fast as I could across a small field, to where a few houses stood. He got back into his van and tried to follow me. I hid to the side of a house out of his view. When he slowly drove by, I moved around the house, always out of his sight. He backtracked a few times, then I saw him trying to talk an older girl into getting into his van. As soon as I felt safe enough, I ran all the way home. My Mother asked me why I didn't knock on the door of one of those houses, but something told me not to, because if they weren't home, he would see me on the porch knocking, and know I didn't live there. NOTE: When I say "something told me", I have absolutely no doubt that The Lord Himself, or a guardian Angel was speaking to me. I know it wasn't my own plan that came rushing into my head and kept me safe that day. No one can tell me different. But I also believe God gives us an instant intuition - based on unconscious information we take in; long before our consciousness kicks into gear. We must learn to listen and react quickly when we just know something is amiss. ❤

I thought about an RV for years. I could never justify all the problems I have seen others experience over the years. For me it's just not worth the money or aggravation. I have not been proven wrong yet I know many that got lucky and got a great built RV or had the money to make repairs. It's too risky for me. Pennies to pennies it just not worth it.

Nah, he wasn't some innocent guy looking for his campsite for 2 reasons: 1. If he'd never made it there in the first place because he got lost, he would have had camping gear of some kind with him or a trailer or something to indicate he was in fact going to camp. 2. If he'd already been there and dropped off his trailer or stuff or whatever and left to go run errands and got lost going back, he would have at least know the area he ended up in looked nothing like the campground he left his stuff at and that the spot you were in looked nothing like where he would have left his stuff at. And if that was the case, why would he have not said "where's the stuff I left here in my spot" or something like that. Nah, that guy may have been just using the new campground as a ruse to case our rigs for robbery.

Honestly, the problem wasn't that you had the door open. I have all my windows and doors open all the time. We can't be out here with our rigs all locked up all the time. That's unreasonable. The problem as I mentioned before is camping in a crowded place for one and camping in a crowded place where you can tell people pretty much live there permanently or semi-permanently and camping in a crowded place too close to a crime filled city. It's that particular situation that put you in danger. I avoid spots like that like the plague.

I'm not saying this to you but just in general. I simply do not get why people insist on camping up each other's butts. Strangers too. I was appalled to see how close you were camped near other strangers on that plateau. You're all in the wilderness and there are literally hundreds and thousands of acres of public land to camp on but every time I turn around, some stranger is trying to be close to me or I see strangers piled up on top of each other in a small area. It's completely insane and dangerous. It's "city" behavior and other "city" behavior comes with it... I hope in the near future people stop thinking it's ok to camp so close to strangers. It's sickening behavior considering were' out here living free...

Another easy solution is get E-ZPass I've had my E-ZPass for 40 years I've lived in Georgia for 23 of them. It's good now all over the east coast of course I also have a peach Pass and a SunPass. And I generally never go through tolls but if I do I'm covered.
